What is a Community Outreach Team?
We consider our Community Outreach Teams to be any combination of students and clinicians that leave the OU Health Sciences campus to meet the community "where they are." This means we provide services as a team with the community, for the community, in the community.
What professions will be on the team?
The OU Health Sciences has a variety of health professions available for Community Outreach. These include: Audiology, Dentistry, Dental Hygiene, Physicians, Physicians Associates, Biomedical Sciences, Epidemiology, Biostatisticians, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Language Pathology, Medical Imaging, Pharmacy, Nursing, Advanced Practice Nursing, Health Care Administration, Health Promotion, Public Health, Nutritional Sciences and Social Work.
However, not all teams will have one team-member from each profession. We work with the community partner and our health programs to decide which professions will participate.
When are Community Outreach Teams available?
Our teams of students and clinicians have various availability. In general, our teams have the greatest availability September-November, and January-April, and mid-June to mid-July.
What is Team-Based Care?
We consider team-based care as occurring when two or more professions, such as a physician and pharmacist, work together to provide care to the patient.
