A series of two virtual interprofessional educational sessions will engage over 1200 students from 27 degree programs across the Health Sciences campus, OU Tulsa, OU Norman campus, and our online programs. Students will engage in education related to the IPEC Core Competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice of:

  • Roles and responsibilities
  • Values and ethics
  • Teams and teamwork
  • Communication

What to Expect

Before:

  • Each student will receive an email with the session assignment and details
  • The zoom link will be in the email
  • Update your zoom client before the day to ensure no delays in joining the meeting

During the Event:

  • Students will be assigned to an interprofessional student team and will participate in a variety of learning activities under the guidance of a trained faculty facilitator.
  • There will be videos reviewed as a larger group, then small group activities in breakout rooms.
  • Students will need to have their camera and microphone on during the full two hours.
  • Attendance is tracked through participation in the team meeting and breakout rooms.
  • Activities will review the IPEC Core Competencies and ask students to collaborate on cases or respond to the presented information.
  • This process is to prepare learners for IPE huddles and debriefs.

An introductory online course has been added in Canvas. This course will offer asynchronous access to introduce the concepts of interprofessional education prior to, or in addition to, attending All Professions Day.

Student Feedback

  • "It was fun and I learned a lot about the other fields."
  • "It was a great experience. I enjoyed learning different roles that other professionals play in our daily lives."
  • "Really inspiring hearing from other professions!"
  • "Had a great time participating in APD and love that our campus encourages events like this."
  • "I enjoyed meeting students from all different medical professions. The conference was well planned and organized. My faculty member did a wonderful job at facilitating conversation and making us feel welcome. I appreciated this opportunity to really see how important each profession is in treating the overall heath of an individual."
  • "I had a very enjoyable experience. It was interesting to meet students from other colleges, something I feel like we often don't do on a regular basis otherwise. It was also interesting to hear a variety of opinions on the case presented, and also share how my profession could contribute to the care of the patient."
  • "I liked the fast pace of all the activities. It kept everyone engaged and interested."
  • "Truly enjoyed engaging and listening to the other professions at my table. We tend to get so locked into our own school that we don't branch out unless forced."
  • "I enjoyed this event. I think it is so essential to keep this opportunity for students alive. I have learned so much from this event, and I think it is so important to create a foundation of mutual respect with other professions before we begin our careers. This will help us later on in life to already have this foundation and facilitate our team based mindset for future encounters with others."
  • "Great opportunity to meet people from other professions and to learn about their scope of practice!"

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is each session?

Two (2) hours.

Do I have to attend in person?

No, the coursework is entirely online and offered via zoom. You will have to participate so you will want to be in a professional meeting setting to connect.

Is there a dress code?

Since you will have to participate with your camera on, please consider the dress code for your department/college for professional dress.

How is my attendance tracked?

During the activity the zoom coordinator will be tracking attendance using your log-in from your OU university zoom account. Please be sure to log-in to the activity using your OU account.

The session I was assigned conflicts with another class. What do I do?

Session changes are easy to process. Please contact Sarah-Seely@ouhsc.edu at least 24 hours prior and we'll change your session. Note, only two sessions are offered, one in the morning and one in the early afternoon.

I have another class that day. What do I do?

We are not allowed to excuse you from attendance. Please reach out to your program faculty for further instructions. They may rearrange your schedule, have you do APD another time, or give you a make-up assignment.

Do I need to do anything to prepare?

Your program may give you instructions. We recommend you prepare by reviewing your scope of practice and being able to speak about your profession, your role on the team, and how you can contribute the health system.
