Intro to IPE Course

Overview

This online course will provide an overview of the IPEC Core Competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice.  This course will be available on Canvas under the course name “OUHSC Introduction to Interprofessional Education.” 

Description: First-year independent didactic course introducing the IPEC Competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice using online modules and group discussions regarding case studies. Must be completed as prerequisite to All Professions Day 1.

Enrollment

  • Students are enrolled in this online component with their assignment to participate in All Professions Day
  • Additional learners can participate by contacting their Program Director within their department

Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate competency related to theoretical content and participate in effective interprofessional team communication used to facilitate patient/client care and interventions including negotiation, conflict resolution and documentation skills, to maximize care outcomes
  • Identify, describe, and compare/contrast the roles and responsibilities of other disciplines to interact, coordinate care, and to emphasize the team approach to patient-centered care
  • Identify, describe, and compare/contrast the roles and responsibilities of other disciplines to interact, coordinate care, and to emphasize the team approach to patient-centered care; demonstrate knowledge of professional roles and responsibilities while advocating for own profession’s role and value on the team during delivery of interprofessional care
  • Understand how to work on an interprofessional team by learning about, from and with other professions
  • Recognize the cultural influences and articulate the values and ethics applied to interprofessional team dynamics that impact the delivery of care; demonstrate mutual respect, understanding, and values to meet patient needs while advocating for the value and role of own profession when delivering patient care in an interprofessional team

Credits

Attendance and participation in this course is defined by student’s college/department of enrollment, not by IEPA or the Office of Interdisciplinary Education Programs. As such, course credit is applied within each department. Students are asked to check with their Program Director regarding how credit is applied within their degree.
